Flat Feet

Pes Planus is the medical term for flat feet, this is when there is minimal or a complete lack of a medial arc, often the entire bottom of the foot makes contact with the ground.

You may be born with flat feet, although more often it develops in later life. It is directly related to the work load imposed on the feet and may be due to sports, occupation or obesity. It often presents without any symptoms although there are associated arthritic changes in the joints of the foot. When shoes are examined they often show excessive wear on the medial side of the shoe.

The method of treatment depends on the nature of the symptoms. If there are no symptoms treatment is not required. If treatment is required your podiatrist will have advised you and possibly prescribed the appropriate insoles.
